Rumi on my Mind

I am back in hopes of getting my all-things-related-to-fashion blog up and running. I typically peruse a diverse number of sites daily. From hard news to infotainment to food-I’m there. Bollywood to Hollywood, television, celebrities, friends, the homeless that live outside my apartment, and the FOBs are my inspiration! Whoever says fashion is dictated by the rich is famous is full of shit!

Fashion bloggers really are very unique. Some ramble on in uninteresting rants, while others simply post inspirational photos and quotes and leave it with a couple words. Sometimes less is more. Ya heard, cocoperez? Anyways, I am really taking a liking to Rumi Neely’s fashiontoast blog. She is a blogger on blogspot.com too! Check her out at www.fashiontoast.com

She is obviously super into herself. At first I was confused why the “model” in the picture was the same girl in every post. But then I quickly realized that the “model” was in fact the blogger. There is no way that I will be subjecting my readers to pictures of me in every post. EW GAG! Get over yourself. Unfortunately, I found myself addicted to her posts because of her fabulous material possessions-dresses, sunglasses, rings, purses, tights. AHHHH I want them all. But I really didn’t want to like her because it is annoying because you know that she knows that she thinks she’s hot—read it again it makes sense? She is like the quintessential SoCal gal that has an effortlessly chic look but in reality took a good couple hours to throw her rags on. So not Mary-Kate style.

Her name in fact is interesting in itself: Rumi. I don’t know if you know but Rumi was a Persian poet and Sufi mystic. He was man of many words and devoted his life to reaching God and returning to Him through dance, music, and poetry. His words are beautiful. I’ll leave you with my friend Roz’s favorite quote she has tattooed on her wrist:

"Reason is powerless in the expression of Love. Love alone is capable of revealing the truth of Love and being a Lover. If you want to live, die in Love; die in Love if you want to remain alive."

Ok back to the blogger, Rumi. Rumi, is half Japanese and half white. She is definitely no mystic and she has no authority on fashion. She is just a gal that models for RVCA and blogs whatever she is thinking and feels. She is always thinking and feeling something about fashion. I enjoy the brevity of her posts and the copious amounts of pictures. Some of the pictures are definitely not for mama. Rumi is not a scholar or academic but somehow establishes herself as an authoritative figure in her brief commentary or description. Even her list of things she did a particular day sound so glamorous and fashionable. Here check it out: http://www.fashiontoast.com/search?updated-max=2010-02-04T13%3A05%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=6

She clearly has a group of followers because she even has ad space from American Apparel in the margins. But I am sure that she has to be photoged (it’s a word—just sound it out!) in an AA tee every two entries! But on the other hand, she really adds an element of her personal life in every entry. With references to her designer friend Kristin and her boyfiend Colin and even to decisions to make about trips to New York and Japan, her readers are really well-versed on her life in fashion and outside of it. Don’t believe me? Look how detailed she is in this entry--http://www.fashiontoast.com/

I think I am going to choose a route that leaves you a littttle more in the dark. Perhaps name drop here and there, but I am sure you can figure it out! Tee hee! But I do plan on mimicking her manner of intertwining my everyday life with fashion! I’ll just have to wait and see if ya like it!

That’s all.
